Alita's Background
Alita Van Vliet is an award winning artist who currently resides in the beautiful coastal mountains near Santa Cruz, California. Living all of her life on the west coast she was born in San Francisco, and grew up in Palo Alto, Ca. She holds two design degrees and has for over 20 years been working as a professional landscape designer while also pursuing her painting. She has been fortunate to have been able to travel on several occaisions to such places as Hawaii and Southern France to paint and gain inspiration. She is currently a member of the Santa Cruz Art League and has recieved various awards for her paintings over the years. As member of the San Benito Artists, she was awarded the "Artist of the Year" Award. She has paticipated in "Open Studios" and has shown her work in various restaurants, coffee shops and public forums as well as juried shows.
Her Work
Alita enjoys using acrylic paints which allow her to move quickly and with a more spontaneous expression. Her love of nature is evident in her art work and her latest collection titled "Nature and Spirit" she features flowers and plant life using a strong color pallet and a real focus on line and shape. In the process of layering color over color she develops richness, texture and depth in her paintings. Alita Van Vliet’s paintings are available in small and large formats and are often seen in diptych and triptych formats, where the subject is divided between multiple canvases. “ I really enjoy working in this way as it naturally encourages me to loosen up as I move from canvas to canvas”.
